A Western song is being mistaken for K-Pop on the video-sharing app TikTok.
Recently, LA-based Vietnamese American singer-songwriter thuy shared a video clip from her “girls like me don’t cry” music video. She wrote, “pov: instead of going to cry i made this song.”
@thuymusic its cheaper anyways 🥲
It went viral with 804K views at the time of writing. Netizens were shook to discover that the song was not by a K-Pop artist.
Thuy responded with a couple of videos. In one, she asked why so many thought “girls like me don’t cry” was a K-Pop song. But she was complimented!
@thuymusic Replying to @ def a compliment to me!!
In another, she responded to a comment that read, “I was so convinced this was a kpop.” So, thuy shared a clip from her music video, adding the text, “pov: u all thought this was a kpop song.”
@thuymusic Replying to @ if u didnt know, hi hello
This video went viral with 4.9M views at the time of writing. Even more, netizens were shocked to discover the song was not by either K-Pop girl groups NewJeans or FIFTY FIFTY.
Discovering that a lot of people, especially K-Pop fans, mistook her song for one by FIFTY FIFTY, thuy shared a mashup of “girls like me don’t cry” and FIFTY FIFTY’s “Cupid” by MADTREE (@madfntree on TikTok).

Now, fans were convinced the songs were soulmates. It only made them want an official collaboration.
We can only imagine how magical that collab would be!
